69 gn Matchking 223 loads

AMProducts. I ordered a Small Base FL Die from Midway 2 days ago. Redding Small Base Full Length Sizer Die 223 Remington - MidwayUSA. Thought I was ordering RCBS but got a redding instead (it was late, never order when your sleepy). Soon as I can get another 550 tool head I'll start prepping brass.

AMProducts, What brass do you Like/Dislike?

Like I said, it makes sense for AMProducts to use small base dies. He is mass producing ammo that he wants to be sure works in every customers' gun. What doesn't make sense is if you already had a regular die and you did not even try running the die down further before ordering another set of $50 dies. It's your money, though.

The standard for .223 brass is Lake City, Mike.

There is only two kinds of brass I avoid, berdan, and often stuff made in metric countries, radway green brass is usually too wrecked to use again, some of the foreign military stuff is usually blown out too. The real thing you need to be careful of is some foreign brass makers use primers of slightly different sizes, on the 550 you need to be really careful as a pocket with an odd size can cause a primer to explode.

Also, if you are using a lot of range pickup brass, you will need to look out for staked in primers, these usually will not prime right, the easiest way for someone on a budget to take care of that is to go get a deburring tool (the lee one is the cheapest) and remove the ridge off the edge of the pocket.

23.1 Grains of Benchmark worked very well for my Savage Bolt Gun recently. Otherwise the Varget loads mentioned previously also worked well.
