Make sure u check that upper. The ones coming from brownells are among the worst machined uppers I have ever seen. If you bought it half price.......
Quality of the upper seems on par with the SARCO cardinal head forged A4 upper I have:s0092: Threads good, BCG test fit from SARCO seems function fine, charging handle fits, pretty easy to put the forward assist and dust cover on... the A1 rear sight and barrel will be installed whenever they arrive; the barrel nut/delta ring set threaded on without getting caught or crossed, antiseize grease will be put on when I get the barrel on

Did some research, seems the quality issues are for the Brownells branded uppers made from Nodak Spud blemish forgings and finished by a different shop... but the C7A1 specific ones are forged by Anchor Harvey with a split A marking, and a B inside a hexagon on the bottom of takedown pin lug; reports are that these C7A1 uppers are good to go quality wise according to AR15 forums... ? :s0092: I am away from the kit right now. Will take a caliper to the carry handle and maybe take some macro shots

@nk02442 , according to my digital caliper; thickness of the walls on the carry handle is 0.065", width of the channel is 0.5045", and here are the macro shots;

Now, the front sight base... I am not sure its the right one, or if its some sort of knockoff???? Edit. According to what I could find out, it should be OK, other than that really odd post and pocket that doesn't match known mfg posts
:s0092:
Diameter of gas journal is 0.755" roughly, height from edge of hole to the plane where the sight post is, is 1.9795", and the sight post is round, has 5 notches.. only marking is an embossed "4" it is obviously a take-off, and has holes drilled and tapped for set screws 20200805_221855.jpg 20200805_221846.jpg 20200805_221747.jpg 20200805_221838.jpg 20200805_221841.jpg 20200805_221756.jpg 20200805_221815.jpg

SixFive Arms' Monster 12" 6.5 Grendel Barrel came in. Only one problem. It has a 1.3" long gas block journal(for a Low Profile gas block) not the 1.9" needed to fully engage the Front Sight Base. I'm not sure that it would work with only one pin fully engaging the gas block ring, and one pin making the front offset somehow?
Pics of the barrel mocked up on the build so far. I'm debating between asking for a 0.600" long, .750"OD, .655" ID tapering out to .750" bushing shim, or returning the barrel at cost, sell it here, or run with a janky looking gap 20200807_163542.jpg 20200807_163557.jpg 20200807_163628.jpg

So, my 3d printed CAR styled pistol brace came in today; and boy, do I have to say.. it completes the retro look! Apparently the maker is in Oregon. I'll drop a link to NWFA in my email to him :D
Still just mocked up, got my A1 rear sight coming in the mail, and in Sept after all bills are paid, the upper will take a trip to @Velzey For his magic :D shown with the Sarco 16" .223 flat top 20200818_152639.jpg 20200818_152614.jpg 20200818_152621.jpg 20200818_152604.jpg

Installed my Luth AR A1 Rear Sight assembly; and set a mechanical zero on it according to US Army online manual, starting with the aperture at farthest left, then rotate windage drum about 17 clicks from start. Got a couple bills to pay before sending the upper to Velzy :) 20200909_162000.jpg 20200909_161952.jpg 20200909_161941.jpg

Got my 4 CPD Duramag 6.5 Grendel 20rd mags in mail today, shown in m4 pouches with flaps and velcro tucked, next to standard 30rd 5.56 mags, and in the pistol well. Looks like I'll need to make a custom short shingle, or belt pouch, or something for them as they're significantly shorter than the 30rd 5.56, and have an odd curve to them unlike say, a 20rd 5.56 straight mag. 20200916_141816.jpg

I do have a Thordsen buffer tube cover and cheek rest saddle coming in, just in case the ATF declares 3d printed braces and blade braces to be "no go".

Length from end of receiver extension tube to muzzle crown is roughly 26.25" give or take a 1/16th of inch, so this is "not concealable" according to ATF. Therefore it is a "firearm" under GCA1968, but may still be called a "pistol" under NFA.

Can you snap some close ups of the "car style blade" brace? I've never heard of such a thing and it makes me smile that such a thing exists.

I first heard about it on AR15.com site, and emailed the creator of said brace, he 3d printed it and assembled it with the pin and spring and sent to me. No idea if he still is doing them currently. 20210811_090944.jpg 20210811_090922.jpg 20210811_090913.jpg 20210811_090841.jpg

Thanks! That is totally the biggest middle finger to the ATF I've seen yet, minus maybe the magpul ones.

In the case that ATF decides that all blade and otherwise stabilizing braces are AOW/SBR accessories... :rolleyes: I do have this. Thordsen customs enhanced buffer tube cover with their 3d printed cheek rest. Also downloaded the ATF approval/declaration letter off their site just in case. Will have to get a QD sling ring and then make up a single point sling with quick adjuster so I can support the firearm by pushing it away with the sling on me, and get a good cheek weld. When its in a comfortable position, the buffer tube is above my shoulder line, and I have good sight picture and cheek weld.
