.45ACP do you shoot something other than 230gr...?

Solid diet of 200 gn LSWC all I shoot. Cowboy Wild Bunch, Speed Steel and IDPA. Got a case of 230 gn ball just sittin around.

My S&W 4506 really likes the 230 grain Speer Gold Dot, and so do I.

Sure, almost all my stock is 230gr., but there are a couple exceptions...

That Rem Golden Sabre 185gr. +P is astonishing at 1140fps, closing in on 10mmAuto territory. And it's cheap, too!

But for pure penetration it's hard to beat a 255gr. hard-cast lead slug:

For two-legged predators, neither is really necessary. I carry Fed HST in 230gr.

I load Berry's 185 grain hollow base round nose plates bullets over 5.3 grains of Titegroup. The hollow base aspect of these gives the 185 grain bullets the same external profile as a 230 grain bullet, meaning you can load them to the same overall case length as 230 ball ammo. The only thing is you have to taper crimp them precisely to avoid damaging the plating which can lead to loss of accuracy and keyholing. I use a Lee Factory Crimp Die and RWS brass, so I can have consistent case wall thickness and taper crimp them just where I want them.

That's what I carry, but I bought mine for just under $17 a box about a month ago. Midway wants $36.49 a box!!

I am seeing that the 230 is still the most common in use out there but there are some interesting options.

200 gr moly SWC is what I shoot mostly. Extremely accurate out of any 45 i have used it in. I only use 230 for SD work
