In my quest to find alternative case options for 44-40 cases, I was looking at the 410 hull. The rim on the 410 hull is a little wider and thinner than the 44-40 case but I cut a fresh hull down to 44-40 length and it does chamber up until the brass wall of the hull begins. The brass on the hull is a little wider in diameter but I think it could be sized down in the
44-40 sizing die.

Has anybody tried loading shot loads for their 44-40? If so what kind of patterns did you get?

The 410 was developed through the 44-40 shot shells.
As seen in the video, use existing 44-40 cases and the blue 44 shot capsules. Caution must be used to not allow the shot capsule to open while in the case or the pellets will fall out down into the powder. I use enough black powder to where the shot capsule rests on top of the powder. I apply just enough crimp so the capsule will not slide out.
I only used these in my revolver for snakes when I lived in Georgia. But ya gotta get up close and personal to be effective. I eventually became better off just using normal cartridges and taking careful aim.
