    The discoloration on the rear sight almost looks like old dried on cosmoline rather than rust, but without having the rifle, it is hard to tell. In any case, it sure doesn't look like anything problematic. Judging from the condition of the rest of the metal, I suspect the discoloration will clean up really easy with either a toothbrush and Hoppes, some Flitz, or just a soft brass toothbrush. Maybe some Brasso on a toothbrush...

    That is GREAT! This is one of the great things about these forums. Other people have had similar suggestions that have really helped me out, so it is nice to be able to help out someone else to repay kindnesses I have received. Glad it worked out. Now the rifle may sell faster...or you may decide to keep it.
