I thought they surrendered to the North Vietnamese government.
 
The USS Midway and Hancock were the two primary Carriers involved in the evac, all planes were taken off and Marine Helos added...

I remember that date well...

The final battle that "Officially" closed the Vietnam war was the fight on Koh Tang Island, May 15th, 1975, "Echo" Company 2nd Bn, 9th Marines...
