Good deal Patric, enjoy your trips to the pit and Masons exploits.
Be safe brother.

I'm proud to report that in the last year I have not had to pick up but a few pieces of trash from my honey hole. I rule it like I own it. Advocacy is the key, let the rules be known to many users and they will pass the word along. :s0115::s0115::s0115:

^^^^^^

And half a ratchet strap too! Nice

Only the half a racket strap with the hook on it.

I'll probably go dump the trash in my friends dumpster tomorrow with my three year old granddaughter.

Caveman did you get your boat repaired yet.
Doesn't trout season open up here in a couple of weeks?.
Mason is itchin to go.
I dropped of almost everything to have a 223 pistol put together, I'll pick it up in a couple of weeks.

Went out in the hills above Siouxon Creek in NE Clark County on Sunday at a particular viewpoint. The wife and I spend 4 hours up there - filled the bed of my pickup, working around the top and down over the sides about 20 yards (It's some pretty steep terrain). Literally thousands of shotgun hulls. Millions of nails. Countless smashed/burned/shot up aerosol cans and beer cans, empty clay pigeon boxes, even a few hypo needles.

Sadly, there's still a ton further down the hill - an old stove tossed down the hill (parts of it scatted for probably 50 yards), 5 gallon propane tanks, the frame of an old car, and off the east side of the hill another whole car rolled and leaning against a tree.

We're planning on going back up in a few weeks and trying to work farther down the sides. And bring up a magnetic sweeper to try and mitigate some of the nails there from pallet bonfires.

Not yet, I have a mobile marine tech coming over next Wednesday, this will be the first time in many years that I haven't been able to fish by April first. :(:(:(

Went back up today to the same spot with a magnetic sweeper. Of course there was fresh trash…but not too much. In about 1-1/2 hours we got another shop-size bag of trash (including working our way back down the road about a mile), at least a bag's worth of big stuff (misc car parts, an old rotted plastic sled, etc), and an entire rubbermaid roughneck tote full of nails and screws. Then dropped it off at recycle/dump on the way home.

It'll take one more trip with a garden rake and the magnetic sweeper to get what's left of the nails and screws…then plenty of crap over the sides.

I didn't get a picture before we finally headed home with so the other crap in the truck.

Yeah, you gotta watch your tires around a bon fire site! They burn pallets and furniture that leaves lots of nails! Thanks for doing that!

Best part is that DNR heard about your efforts and that's a plus for shooters when ever we can communicate our stewardship to them!

Way to go you guys!

New to the site - just wanted to say this is a great idea. I'm definitely in. 3 trash bags is (sadly) no problem in a few shooting spots around here... Better than 10 years ago though, so hopefully that trend continues.

The nails where I shoot are just as bad. It's the Saturday night party people doing that. It's so bad I don't drive into the area anymore I just park away from it and walk in. There are literally millions of nails.

I've picked up a zillion nails over the years, every trip. They burn tons of pallets, a couple of times someone burned a bunch of tires so there was a bunch of steel tires bands. What a PITA to pick up.
But if you don't pick it up, no one else will.
The weather hasn't been cooperating much so far this year to take my grandson out to the pits.

I took Mason up to the 435th Ave pit yesterday early afternoon. Mason got to shoot for four hours. He did really good shooting milk jugs full of water with the 357 Ruger GP100 right handed then left handed.
I hand a bunch of 16 ounce water bottles that I filled with tap water that he was hitting with the revolver as well. He can shoot. Then he shot the 223 H&R Handi-Rifle. He was putting them all with in a quarter.
He shot 100 rounds of 223 and 150 rounds of 357.
About the same amount on our last trip up there.
It's time to get more ammo reloaded.

Finely got all the shotgun hulls all picked up in both pits. I'll start working on the steel rifle and pistol cases next trip.
I have been working cleaning up the pits for a few years now. When I first started both pits looked like a river of shotgun hulls. Finely hit the light at the end of the tunnel on the shotgun hulls. I have been working on the steel rifle and pistol cases, not I have more time to work on them while Mason get his shooting in.

great work and great shooting Mason!! Thank you for cleanup!

Couldn't get it all, so much little crap everywhere. I always forget to bring bags, but luckily this time someone left behind some boxes that I was able to fill up with crap that I could find. People shoot the most random stuff. Grabbed some big planks of wood and a shot up roll of plastic. Definitely left it better looking vs when I showed up!
