Has anyone had a y experience with this rifle on larger predators? Big coyotes or Cougars? I am wondering if it would be effective on a cougar should the need arise, or would I just wind up with a wounded lion in the pasture?

I shoot one once in a while for coyotes. They do fine on dogs but I'd feel undergunned if a cougar came into play.

What about 243 Winchester? About 2000 lbs of energy vs 1200-1300 for .204

I dont have one. I have a .204 sitting by the barn door, the rest are .300 magnum or .3006.

Well if you aren't concerned about saving fur then I'd opt for one of the 30 cals.
