2024 Season Outcome

Love the rifle! The darker wood around the wrist is telling of a history.

Not a deer hunter myself. You guys are crazier than salmon fisherman. I'd go to deer camp though, and help out back in the day!

I pretty much gave up deer hunting. It's basically just procurement of meat now days. Elk hunting is my 1 vacation for the year, we don't hunt to hard.

I drew a pretty good bow tag this year only to have the hunt area burn up. The ODFW was kind enough to refund my preference points, so I just bought a general rifle tag. I found a really nice set of sheds last year and tagged a buck this year. I'm pretty sure it's the same deer. He just must have regressed a little. Since I didn't fill my elk tag this year, I went with the "Don't pass up today, what you would be happy to shoot on the last day." theory. Hey, venison in the freezer is a good thing.

Blacktail are harder than elk in my book. Nice job!

Heck, I don't even get tag soup this year as my tags have yet to be printed . Working consumed my season this year as by the time it was half over, I hadn't even confirmed zero in my rifle. Threw in the towel on this one but good job everyone else!

My wife never got a chance to go hunting, either. I was able to spend a few days out, but missed the first part of the season when the deer were still hangin out at our place.

It's been a busy season for us...
My son started hunting he had 2 tags to fill. He drew a Saddle Mtn doe tag this year. He punched it first. We never got his buck tag filled. He was looking for something big or unique.
I felt pressured to punch my tag when I happened upon my spike. 40 yd shot, double lung.
I spent most of September chasing elk with a bow for the first time. What an incredible experience.
My daughter outdid us both...
She drew a Bighorn Sheep tag this year. Her and I spent had the adventure of a lifetime getting her ram. I couldn't be more proud of her.
Both rifles pictured with the kids were mine...they now have new owners.

I totaled up my days in the field this year, 32...
The knowledge I gained this season was massive mostly during archery. It was awesome to watch my kids move into a new chapter of their lives.

That's incredible! Not a hunter, so forgive my ignorance. Was that sheep hunt in eastern Oregon? Just up in The Gorge maybe, seeing as we've seen them up there from I-84.

I always figured the Saddle Mountain area to be totally over-run with people/idiots due to it's location so close to potland.

One of those years for me when everything just came together for a change. Shot 3 rounds total at an average range of 25yds and 3 dead critters was the result. We will disregard the clean miss with my pistol at 25yds . Two good deer and a calf elk are now in the larder for winter. I already have made ground burger and jerky, but sausage making is on the horizon shortly.
For those with pellet grills, I will also share my favorite simple roast recipe, which I had just last night. Dry rub roast with seasonings to taste, put on pellet smoker on low (150 ish) for 45min to an hr. Ramp up temp to 450 until probes 130 degrees internally (time varies from 15min to 30 min depending on size of roast. Beef Prime rib has nothing on this as it comes out tender and flavorful!

Yes, it was in Eastern Oregon. The Deschutes Canyon, specifically.

Saddle Mtn can be a bit busy.
There's still places to get away from people though and that's what we do.

Got my archery buck (on opening day right in the middle of the durkee fire burn no less) and rifle bull elk in oregon, and I got my rifle buck and rifle bull in idaho.

Got both of my deer tags filled. Not worth posting pics they were just freezer fillers. But I did get a nice Rosie bull first season which I was very excited about.

Thank you! Just trying to remain humble but yes he's a beautiful bull. I've always wanted to get one with dark horns.
