How did they die when weather was 45 degrees (at Pdx elevation)? Got wet (my guess)? Snow storm up there? Weird.

Why do I get the feeling these were not hunters (rhetorical Q)?

When going out into the woodline...
It pays to be prepared.

While you don't need to carry a whole surplus store or hunting store inventory....
Some basics are a must have ....just in case like Gilligan , your 3 hour cruise , turns into a longer stay.

I think lots of folks brought up in cities don't have basic outdoor concepts Fe of keeping dry. I recall some years back the guy who drove past rocks etc with his car to go over mountain road and ended up stuck in the snow. Burnt his tires for warmth. Went out on foot and got wet and died before rescuers found his wife and children in the now disabled car. I remember seeing photos of the car and by that time there was little to no snow where the car was as I recall.

Edit: picture of the "saaburu" 4 wheel drive wagon with little snow but no tires cuz they burnt them. I think at some level this is lack of common sense not just no experience outdoors. Especially since those Subaru wagons can do excellent in the snow even with basic all season tires.

Gaia app, download the map of where you are going to hike prior to leaving a wifi connection.
Turn on tracking as you leave the vehicle.

The lifesaving technology is right in your pocket.

My buddy sent me this. I feel like if you're searching for squatch, there's likely drugs involved.

Meh.
There's a lot of serious hunters who do a bit of squatchin in the off season.
It keeps them in the woods, and they can scout new opportunities for actual game later on.
Plus, if anyone ever gets good pics or other solid proof ,it's almost like winning the lottery.

That's just it. You NEVER see a good pic of one.

Two things are true. First, it is amazing how much of the woods is traveled by people. How often do we hear that someone hunting or hiking in the woods finds human remains, and it turns out the person has only been missing a week? So often it only takes a week or less to find people in the woods when it seems like it should take years if ever. I know there are exceptions but that tells me that except for some really remote and high places it is really difficult to hide in the woods. Sure, I know it is different when the thing trying to hide is alive and has heightened senses. Mountain lions are a good example. I think that if there really were Squatches they would be seen much more often.

And who can't take a decent cell phone photo or video? Phone cameras are damn good these days and everyone has one. I just feel like if Old Squatch were out there someone would have a good photo or video. Especially since it could then be monetized.

If you are going to make the argument that these things are smarter than a mountain lion and can think and reason, and understand why they should avoid man, then to me that makes it even less likely they exist. If they were that smart someone would find a way to put up posters in Squatch territory and convince the Squatch that a mutually beneficial arrangement is available that would make their life easier and more pleasant if they would simply sit for a photo. For instance you could offer food and a subscription to Playboy, while guaranteeing that they would never have to listen to Yoko Ono or watch the Seahawks play. I for one would allow my picture taken for less reward than that. The Cleveland Browns for instance.

Good lord!

Tell me you add whiskey to your coffee.

The seahawks thing got me rolling. That's funny stuff

I'm 70. I grew up with some great comedy on TV, Monty Python, and Dave Barry. The comedy part is in my DNA.

Unlike the alleged Sasquatches who you never see at comedy clubs either in the audience or on stage.

Admittedly, the whiskey does help things along.

Are we talking the moving the day along, or getting things to move along in the morning? If it's the latter, I suspect that's the coffee, not the whiskey.

Not weird, local geography there creates a rainshadow effect and that areas been getting hit with heavy rain and snow lately. I'm not certain but also don't think it needs to be actually freezing to die from hypothermia, especially if they are wearing anything cotton out there as many inexperienced outdoorsmen do. Almost assuredly they were woefully unprepared to be out there in current conditions.

My best guess puts them about in the area I circled on the snowdepth map (current conditions).
