There are two opportunities for the metro area to improve your marksmanship coming up June 6th and 7th:

Stevenson, WA http://www.eventbrite.com/e/stevenson-wa-appleseed-june-6-7-2015-tickets-14788746539
Eagle Creek, OR http://www.eventbrite.com/e/eagle-creek-or-appleseed-june-6-7-2015-tickets-13359383275

Both ranges are open to all rifles from .22lr - 8mm.

Not sure if Appleseed can help you? The attached flyer has a 1" square. Put that flyer out at 25 yards and engage that target with 10 rounds in under 60 seconds from the unsupported, field position of your choice. 8 out of 10 is the standard we teach to.

One of the suggestions for getting prepared to attend an Appleseed event, is to get into the basic shooting positions as practice: Prone, Sitting, Kneeling, and Standing.

I am reminded that I am no longer 20-something.

Yes, the core of the instruction takes place on Saturday. You will not get many AQT's in (chances to earn the rifleman's patch) but you will certainly learn from the experience.

Most of our shooting will be at 25m so your groups will start out a touch low but the first 6+ courses of fire are designed to help you get sighted in.

Although sighting in the rifle is covered during Appleseed training, I would say that one of the biggest factors in you having a successful weekend is to make sure that your rifle is absolutely dead-nuts accurate at 25 meters BEFORE coming!

If you have your rifle 100% sighted in prior to attending Appleseed, then you know if you're not hitting the targets it's YOU and not your rifle. Too many times have I seen people bring their rifles that have not been sighted in. They have a more difficult time of it.

In addition to this, for all people attending this weekend listen up: WORK ON TRANSITIONS NOW!

Nothing will make you quite so tired and sore as a day full of laying in prone, standing up, and getting back down again. That is unless it's transitioning from sitting to standing and back to sitting. These actions use a LOT of muscles we're just not used to using on a daily basis, and on Sunday, some of you are going to find that you're so sore from Saturday that your speed and accuracy will be severely compromised.

So get moving today! Begin stretching every day. Begin getting into positions over and over, TODAY! Do it every day leading up to the event. Do it with your (unloaded) rifle in hand to make sure you can do it with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction (downrange). Do it while you're watching TV. Do it after dinner. Do it first thing in the morning. Do it after work. Just get moving!
