And, no, I'm most certainly not mentioning the Orwellian horror contained in a book so titled. No, I speak of a magazine my beloved acquired whilst picking up the last of our Thanksgiving victuals:

OMG .... Red Dawn, Revenge of the Nerds, Ghostbusters, All of Me, Gremlins, Amadeus, Beverly Hills Cop, Cannonball Run (cheesy as hell, but fun), The Temple of Doom (probably the weakest of the original three, but still), The Karate Kid (cheese, but hilarious), A Nightmare on Elm Street, Police Academy (hardly fine art, but the wackiness), Purple Rain, Romancing the Stone, Sixteen Candles, The Terminator, Streets of Fire, and many more. Wowzer, what a run.

Any others you'd like to mention? Can they ever make movies like they used to? :p

A couple movies from 1984 that I love would be The Natural and Spinal Tap.

"I believe virtually everything I read, and I think that is what makes me more of a selective human than someone who doesn't believe anything." -- David St. Hubbins (Spinal Tap)

My favorite year for movies is probably 2000 though.
Let me throw a few out there:
O Brother Where Art Thou?, Snatch, Sexy Beast, The Patriot, Cast Away, Unbreakable, Perfect Storm, Best in Show, Legend of Bagger Vance, Meet the Parents, Almost Famous, Jim Carrey's Grinch, American Psycho and since we're making lists--High Fidelity.
I probably left some out too.
So yes, they can make movies like they used to. Sadly, they just rather make money

Motley Crue, Ratt, actually showing up to class late with your friends and still in your waders because you were duck hunting before class and your shotgun was still in the pick-up and no one cared.

I was in Middle school and even back then , Waldo was rough. I remember a friend of mine, jacking another friend of mine in the hall for his chocolate bar money.
Think the schools are bad now, I thnk most of us were atleast carrying a knife back then.

He was in band, you know how they go around and sell chocolate bars.
He tried it again a few weeks later, pulled a knife and we pulled outs..Amazing how peace though strength works.;)

I remember being little in that era, and my parents couldn't afford to purchase a VCR, so every once in a while we'd rent one. They'd come encased in thick plastic armor and it would take what seem like an eternity to get it hooked up.

We'd rent movies like the ones mentioned, and you'd be so excited, and some evil SOB didnt rewind it.:(

you didn't mention all the porn movies that made HILARIOUS "spoof titles" from all of those..... :s0140:

1984 nostalgia eh...?

Mine goes back to black and white movies with Humphrey Bogart, ice men, round 8" t.v. screens with crap audio and 3 t.v. stations only, radio was the most popular electronic entertainment with shows like "The Shadow", big bands like Tommy Dorsey, and man oh man, do I miss xavier cougat and ok, I'll stop.

One day, you'll be the old, cranky guys who find inventions/trends/language/cultural shifts past your childhood as the 'new fangled stuff' you lived without just fine when you were a kid....it'll happen, if you remain alive and kickin.

Oh and you'll laff when kids act like they invented sex...
