I wanted to share some pic’s of my latest addition to a new (to me) RIA 1911. I use antlers to make other stuff, and thought I can do that! I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to share your personal addiction to your handgun.
Besides seeing them online for $195 pr… Enough said!

I need to get up shed hunting and find some antlers... I can't seem to shoot any big game animals.

Those look good. Here are a few sets of grips I have made.

I did NOT put the idiot scratch in the slide... I did sand it down a little and make it look stock again.

My first 1911, not much done to this one, fit a new bushing, flush cut the barrel and crowned it.

My all time favorite personal touch... The signs of a gun that has been carried and shot, at least 15,000 rounds down range out of this gun

Fancy Grips always look nice! I wanted to make grips from something I had hangin about. Not bad for my first set w/o a duplicator... all by hand and eye.

Not bad at all. I have my process pretty well worked out, I have a fixture for the holes and counterbores, I do them on a mill. I cut the rough shape on a band saw, then I have a set of steel "blanks" that I pin to the grips. I sand the outside with those, when I get sparks they are to size. The round shape is done freehand on the belt sander... A lot of sanding, measuring, sanding... Then a lot of finish work by hand.

They look very good, although kind of thick. How do they feel compared to something more conventional?

Just imagine a Kimber with normal holster wear...cause its worn everyday! Thats my personal touch.

My Dan Wesson is like that. It's ready for new grips just because they have been bounced off of all sorts of things while living my life. A thread now about custom grips is timely.

I set out to make this set Thick, as I have a long grip/Fingers. The thicker ones allow me to role my hand position for a quicker thumb release on the mag button. They feel great and do not affect my draw or shot/sight profile.

That said... tonight I made a second set trying to perfect the look and fit. This set is more like the thickness of the standard grips, and still have the Elk Antler look. At this rate I will be running out of antler soon..lol

I will be trying to put togeather a set for a Buddy, for his blackhawk later this week.

Yep, both of mine are that way although I did add a CT laser one. The other one came with one. I do have a new trigger to install on one of them.

"A gun is like a parachute. If you need one and don't have it, you'll probably never need one again!"

Thank you. The Ruger is going to get some more personal touches this weekend. Flush cut and crown barrel, a lot of cosmetic clean up and possibly hi power cuts on the slide. I have to see if there will be a machine open for the hi power cuts.

I polished the barrel on my Ruger SR1911 with mothers mag polish. That's all I have done so far with my SR1911, I would like to get the barrel crowned, that looks pretty cool!
