1891 Argentine Mauser

I have an 1891 Mauser in great condition, almost looks like it was made yesterday, all matching numbers. It does have the shaving of the crest and what not but that is the norm. My delema is that it is so long and heavy. I tend to be more of a carbine type of guy, and was wondering if the carbine version was worth it or not. I have seen some on gunbroker for around $400-$500 and up, but the long rifles are more around $600 in the condition i have mine... I also thought maybe just sell it for around $600 to some one who will appreciate it more. Any help and or thoughts would be a huge help, what is your favorite Mauser? This is my only one for now, was wanting a swiss in 6.5x55 though.

Sell it by all means, don't bubba-butcher it!. I think you mean a Swiss rifle in 7.5X55, OR a Swede 1896 or 38 Mauser carbine in 6.5X55. 6.5X55 is a proven hunting round on everything up to bear in Scandinavia.
My personal favorite "go to" Mauser is the K98k and similar- the 98 is the safest rifle barring none available today and can be very accurate. My own favorite is a Yugo 24/47- by some quirk it is the most accurate of all my stock '98 Mausers.

I would never butcher this baby... I put it up for $600 in C&R and i was told that is a little high, but it is around what they go for in good conditioned. Will see I guess. Also, I heard there are a lot of fake 98's out there.... is that true?

I went in a few times, prices run high but they have rare items from time to time. I don’t like rare stuff and these guys price those items well...
