I have a 1883 dated "Trapdoor" Springfield Rifle up for trade. ( .45-70 caliber )
The action works fine and the bore is very good.
The bore does have a very small area of darkness , near the middle...No roughness or pitting , just a bit of discoloring.
Also I have the original front sight ... but I have a taller front sight , that I made in place at the moment.
I made and installed the new sight for shooting at ranges of 100 yards and less.

Cartouches and markings on the stock are very faint to gone....
The stock is good with no cracking and is sound and stable.
The sling is not original ... Its a Swedish Mauser sling.
Cleaning rod is original and of the proper era.
Sorry the bayonet and scabbard are since traded.

Trade interests are :
A double action revolver in .357 Magnum with a 4 inch barrel

Pre-Lock Smith and Wesson Model 19 / 66

Colt Trooper any mark , 4 inch barrel .357 Magnum ( if someone is crazy enough )
Ruger Security Six blued or stainless
Unconverted Ruger Old Model Blackhawk 4 5/8 barrel , .357 Magnun ( 6 1/2 could work as well )

Winchester pre-64 Model 70 in .30-06

Thanks ron!
Yep it is in .45-70...And yes you can shoot smokeless powder cartridges in it.

"Cowboy Acton" loads are loaded for them and are easy to find on store shelves.
Also Remington makes a Black powder equivalent smokeless load as well.
Most ammo that is safe for these rifles say "Safe for Trapdoor Springfield Rifles" ...Just as many say :
Not safe for Trapdoor Springfield Rifles."
Andy
Edit to add:
As a general rule most Trapdoor safe loads are loaded to 25,000 psi or less
Bullets are usually lead in the 405 -500 weight range.
Muzzle velocity is around 1330 and Muzzle energy is around 1590 with a 405 bullet and a factory smokeless Trapdoor safe load.

I'll add a lot of jacketed loads are safe for them, but they can have generous groove dimensions, so wether smokeless or black powder, lead is best.

Black powder is more fun though;)

Great looking rifle Andy!
