Find a stripped receiver and build your own, just like AR guys. Garand will be MUCH more tooling, labor and skill intensive though.

If OP were to purchase a barreled receiver it doesn't take any more tools or skill to build a Garand than it does an AR platform rifle. It only gets more intense if you install a new barrel and have to ream the chamber and set the headspace.

The real issue with building an M1 from parts is the cost. If you can find a decent barreled receiver it will cost as much as you can buy a completely assembled rifle from CMP.

All that said, having built both multiple times from the receiver up, I find it much more satisfying to work on the Garand. But that's just my preference and opinion.
