m1 carbine
The M1 carbine (formally the United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1) is a lightweight, easy to use, .30 caliber semi-automatic carbine that became a standard firearm for the U.S. military during World War II, and continued to be used throughout the Korean War and well into the Vietnam War. The M1 carbine was produced in several variants and was widely used by not only the U.S. military, but by military, paramilitary and police forces around the world. It has also been a popular civilian firearm.
The M2 carbine is the selective-fire version of the M1 carbine capable of firing in both semi-automtic and full-automatic. The M3 carbine was an M2 carbine with an active infrared scope system.
Despite its name, the M1 carbine is not a shorter version of the M1 Garand rifle. It is a completely different firearm and it fires a different type of ammunition. It was simply called a carbine because it is smaller and lighter than the Garand. On July 1, 1925, the U.S. Army began using the current naming system where the "M" is the designation for Model and the "number" represents the sequential development of equipment and weapons. Therefore, the "M1 rifle" was the first rifle developed under this system. The "M1 carbine" was the first carbine developed under this system. The "M2 carbine" was the second carbine developed under the system, etc.

Other than magazines, what spare parts do you keep on hand to keep a member of the M1 carbine family (e.g., M1, M2, M3, post-war commercial derivatives, et al.) running? Any you've found unnecessary?
Thanks for sharing. :)
A recent Q&A video on In Range reminded me of this. That is so called "jungle style" where two (sometimes more) magazines of a semi-automatic or select-fire rifle/carbine/subgun are somehow attached for quicker reloads. Some are factory built that way (e.g., United Defense M42 magazines, some...
What I think should be an easy question — the Iver Johnson pattern M1 Enforcers*: are the stocks compatible with every other M1/2 Carbine or is swapping said† going to require some gunsmith work?
* These:
† Yes I know short barrel, NFA, etc. The one I'm eyeing for a move on Monday already...
Say there is a reason why something AR is a no-go for a primary preparedness carbine for whatever reason — bad experience with them, legal reasons, just prefer something else, the Intergalactic Space Pickles abducted all the ARs, or whatever. What would your choice be for a self-loader as a...
Hello! Been a while since I been around here, mostly use the site for buying.
I was curious about a magazine, as well as some ammo, I recently picked up for my .30 carbine.
The magazine is a 30rd magazine with SEY marked on it, and a rubber dust cover? Over the feed lips. The reinforcement...
WTB: Winchester M1 carbine - hoping for “collector” or correct(ed) grade condition. Just Winchesters please, and condition is most important to me.
A Win carbine is a bucket-list kind of thing.
I’ve got cash, and I’m not afraid to use it on the right offer :s0067:
This is a nearly all NPM correct WWII carbine. The only parts that are not NPM are those that were replaced during re-arsenal after the war. Very interestingly this carbine went through the Mt. Ranier Ordinance Depot at Ft. Lewis, WA as noted by the MR stamp on the left side of the butt stock...

The magazine is in good shape. I believe it is a 15 round magazine but I am not sure as I do not own an M1 Carbine. I've included photos showing the dimensions so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. These sell for $50 elsewhere online. Found the following description: "WWII IBM Contract M1...
Ran across this on the net today. What I wouldn't give to have a few minutes in that room (and a truck waiting outside the building)!
The picture was apparently taken somewhere in Ethiopia. I hope some of those rifles manage to find their way home, but I doubt it will happen...
