new gate. closed for fire hazard
Overall Rating

Pros
  • so many great little spots to shoot.
Cons
  • bummed that it was closed
Been going to various shooting spots along Gooseneck road for years. Was all geared up for a day of shooting yesterday only to be prohibited by a big new yellow gate blocking entry supposedly due to Fire Hazard.

RIP Scotts MIlls
RIP Pioneer Rd
RIP Gooseneck?

I'll check back once the weather gets wet. In the meantime feel free to message me any cool outdoor shooting spots around Salem!

Pros
  • Good backstop
  • Decent handgun/shotgun distance
Cons
  • Trash, casings left
We went there today, at the righthand fork past the shooter info sign, and at the spot where there's a fallen log across a trail; good backstop hill, but lots of cartridge cases left, lots glass and ceramics :( we did out part to clean as best as we could. About half a contractors bag filled with what we could pick up. Next time, bringing a rake and broom.

Pros
  • Lots of shooting options
  • Way out in the woods, away from houses and highways
  • Can get cell reception in most areas
Cons
  • Very popular, and most spots are often taken
Very popular service road with some unmarked logging roads that branch off of the main. Relatively cleaned up from what we saw. I just wish that the shooting spots were a little further away from the road.

some say this area was recently closed, but a check w/Polk county sheriff revealed it's still open for target shooting. Deputy said, trash & unsafe shooter's is what usually causes a shut down.
