Lack of selection on Sunday but not their fault with sale starting on Saturday
Sportsman's Warehouse had an insane sale on footware. I bought many items for 75% off. The checker told me someone came in on Saturday and rung up $1300 worth of shoes and left for just $325. I ended up with a decent amount on Sunday but definitely great sale! Kudos Sportsman's for a true sale not a marketing gimmick.
they needed more help behind the counter - but were friendly
During the ammo shortage I tried Sportsmans and had a little luck. They were pretty busy at the time of my visit but were a bit short handed. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience.
Good selection and able to order to pick up in store
Cons
Seems that the gun counter doesn't mean much to the rest of the store
I have purchased from Sportsman's Warehouse before, this issue I have isn't with the staff as much as it is with management. Two to three staff members behind the gun counter. Long long lines of people waiting to get guns. Measure 114 has caused many long lines. I am disappointed with management, employees wondering around, talking, no since that the customer is important. A few words at the end of the night from management, staying clear from area as much as possible, or hiding in the back. Customer service is always a big deal.
In the Salem area I have been purchasing guns for over 25 years. About half my purchases were at local gun shops with the remaining at Sportsman's Warehouse. All those local gun shops are long gone.
I've purchased 4 (or more) handguns and one shotgun from Sportsman's Warehouse over the years, most recently a few days ago. Some of these purchases have been online for store pickup while others have been in stock. Other items such as .41 mag ammo have been ordered when on sale since a good selection is not that easy to find locally.
I've purchased a few weapons on sale that were just fantastic deals that I've never seen before or since. When I find something I want, I just bookmark it and check it daily to see if it is in stock or on sale.
My recent handgun purchase there took a little less than an hour to complete despite the long line at the service desk waiting to purchase ammo.
I have always been impressed by the people working there. They are knowledgeable, courteous, patient, and friendly. Even my wife tolerates being dragged into the store since there is enough clothing and shoes to keep her occupied temporarily.
I believe they still have a 10% Veteran discount for in store purchases also. I haven't used it since 2019.
