Pros
  • Close-in, safe environment, friendly staff
Cons
  • I didn't experience any
I sometimes stop at gun ranges in areas that I don't normally circulate in. I'm from the "north end" of the Puget Sound area. Today I was at the WAC gun show in Puyallup. Last night I looked online to find a gun range on the way home. I found the Renton Fish and Game Club, in the Renton Highlands. I checked out their web site, watched their recommended 25 minute safety video, and downloaded their visiting shooter form to fill out. Weekend afternoons are always a mess on Highway 167, so I took Hwy. 18 to Hwy. 169 (Maple Valley Hwy.). This back way is a lot more relaxing than being stuck in gobs of traffic on 167.

When I got to the range, from having watched the video I felt like I'd already been there. This is a very nice little range, tucked into a wooded area that is now surrounded by years of development. The staff is friendly and helpful. The benches have adequate space between them. I was shooting rifle, and on that range they have 50, 100 and 200 yard targets. I didn't go over and look at the pistol side, which was right next door. It looked to me like they get a lot of shotgun action there, very nice shotgun field. The range office at the shotgun field was very spacious, clean, and refrigerated to about 65 degrees. Very nice facility.

The fee to shoot as a visitor at RF&GC is $20. Which isn't all that much these days. Remember, when you pay this fee at non-profit type gun ranges, you are paying to support their overhead. If it weren't for the fees, these ranges wouldn't exist. I was an officer for a club where I'm a member; the visitor fees are a very important source of revenue for them. The member dues only go so far and clubs like this make up the difference with visitor fees.
On the day I was there, no screaming old men running the establishment. Only a couple of friendly, helpful young guys.
Avoid this place at all costs!

Pros
  • It's a range
Cons
  • The guys at the gun range itself acted like the Gestapo...
  • Yelling at shooters and standing right behind people and screaming in their ear for anything and everything.
These guys were asswh_oles, constantly stared and yelled at the shooters and told me "You don't fuc_king listen to well" when he mumbled something to me that I could not hear. Avoid this place if you can... :s0049:

The owner of Fed way discount guns went there with some active duty LEO's and the fat a_ss tried the same shi_t and almost ended up getting arrested..
true story..
