Early in March, I discovered quite by accident that the Oregon City store has firearms. I'm in the store occasionally, so how did I miss this quite large and well stocked gun department in the basement? Maybe because nowhere inside or outside the store does it obviously say they have a firearms department. I knew Coastal's in other areas had a gun department, but I was just waiting for Oregon City to get one. And it's been in operation a year.

Anyway...I ordered a TX22. A week later they called to say the gun was waiting for me. It was then, the stay at home orders were in place, so I offered to pay for the gun over the phone with a credit card to hold it for me til I could physically come in for the transfer. They said they wouldn't take any money, but they'd put my name on it and hold the gun until the stay at home order was lifted.

I finally got my nerve up and went in for senior citizens hour yesterday, to discover they'd sold the gun out from under me.

I was not happy. If they had no intention of holding the gun, why did they pretend to? I expressed my displeasure to Coastal.

Guess what? I received a call from their manager after the fact. Their excuse? They said they had an incorrect phone number. Then how did they have the right phone number to call me now?

They've reordered the gun and they promised to hold it as long as necessary. They still wont allow me to pay for it. Internal rules. But they offered once the gun is in their store, I could put it on layaway by physically coming into the store. Are they really saying this?

I knew that holding a gun indefinitely is asking a lot, and I would not have expected that. But I didn't ask. They offered. I hope they mean it this time. But this time, since i already entered their store in spite of the lockdown, I'll just have to enter it again.

P.S. ...

Since my post, I have taken possession of the pistol they re-ordered for me. Their retail procedure is slow, not unlike Cabela's or Fisherman's. It took an hour.

I've taken the pistol to the range, and the pistol operates wonderfully.
