Pros
  • Counter staff friendly
Cons
  • Counter staff didn't know their business
I went to Cabela's in Tualatin to ask if they would accept a firearm from Atlantic Firearms (online seller) to transfer to me. Cabela's was listed on Atlantic Firearms' website as a previously used transfer FFL. After a quick debate between two store employees, they said they would accept the transfer and do the BGC, but that any magazines with more than ten rounds capacity would not be accepted. I went away to buy the firearm, and have it shipped to Cabela's.
Later, I received a call from the manager at Cabela's stating that Cabela's was not accepting firearms to transfer. Atlantic charge a $20 fee for changing the destination (transferring) FFL.
Can't take the lame of Cabela's

Pros
  • Nope
  • If you want a purple Maglula loader for 9mm to 45 they have a ton of them
Cons
  • Overpriced
  • Really bad service
  • Staff couldn't answer one simple product question
  • Website does not reflect accurate stock
I have been in here 2 times. First was opening day. Everything was overpriced at the gun counter. Told myself I would never go back. Well I had done so until today.

I went in for one thing. A couple Maglula loaders. I had looked online, checked availability and decided I would give them another try since the website said it was available in the colors I was looking for.
I found the Maglula display and there was only one color on the rack. I grabbed it and went to ask if there were more colors in the back. There was literally 1 guy in the gun area helping someone. Then a couple more came out, but none asked to help. They made great eye contact and walked the other way. I followed to the end of the counter where they decided they would stand away from the counter talking about their lunch break. I'm literally standing 5 feet from them. On guy ducks in the back while the other one keeps doing something, facing away from the counter. The guy that ducked in back came out the other door at the other end of the counter and disappeared into the store. The other remaining guy tried to walk in back as well, but I made it known I had one question.

Do you have these in other colors like the website said you do? While holding the Magula in my hand.

Go over there and take a look at the end cap display, he told me.

I walk over to where he said to go. Nope not there. Told him so. Then he walks out, looks in the area he told me to go, then proceeds to walk down every isle looking for the Maglula loaders, even though I told him where I got it. He looks at the shelf, fumbles through the 1 remaining color that no one seems to want and finally answers the question I put to him in the first place. We put everything on the shelf when it comes in.

"OK thanks" hung up the loader and walked out
20 minutes of my life waiting that I wish I had back. Never again

Pros
  • Good selection in the Gun library ( Usually)
  • Good camo selection
  • good clothing selection
  • Good fishing selection of generic stuff
Cons
  • Zero gun counter help, zero knowledge of product
  • Above average prices, even the sales are not a good deal
  • Overly complicated, agonizingly slow gun purchase process, too many chiefs, not enough Indians
  • know it all employees and worse management, zero help or concern for the customer needs
I was expecting a lot more, and was underwhelmed, to me, Cabelas is the Wall Mart of the outdoor sporting vendor world. Expect low and you will not be disappointed! From the Largely generic selection of so so quality, or the inflated prices, to the brand exclusive=cheap junk, not my go to for any real needs. even Sportsmans has area specific selection of product. An overly complicated firearms purchasing system with way too many extra and unnecessary steps and unnecessary personal, to an agonizingly low process, I will not buy a gun from them unless it's worth the hassles, which it usually isn't! The camping area as well as fishing, and hunting are ok, but don't look for area specific/targeted species, or technique driven sports! I would have thought they would have done better! SAD!
