*Oregon State Steel Challenge Championship 2020*

Oregon is finally getting in the game with our first official USPSA Steel Championship. Sean has done a lot of work to put this together and its gonna be a great match down at COSSA just outside of Bend. October 10th. Hope to see some of you there.

Registration is open as of today, up on Practiscore.

Well THAT sounds like fun! Hope there are still some slots left on payday...
175 open slots, trying to bring in some more out of state shooters but pretty sure it will mostly be just us locals this first time around. But either way come out and have some fun in the mild Bend autumn weather with a great group of shooters!!

Alright, I'm signed up. Never shot an official "Steel Challenge" match, but I've done the local "Speed Steel" for a little over a year. Looking forward to shooting with you all!

If it's not too late after already registering, I wonder what is expected of staff volunteers who aren't range officers?
If you are not an RO there is a slight chance you will get denied signing up as staff. It will really depend on how the rest of the slots on the main day fill up and how much extra help will be needed.

OK. I clicked it on Practiscore, will make myself available to help out, and be fine with it, if not needed. How does one get certified as an RO officially with USPSA?

Total noob to these competitions. Is there a breakdown somewhere you can give me with class and other definitions?
Just google Steel Challenge to see plenty of videos or head over to scsa.org to view the rule book. If you have ever shot a speed steel match it's not much different. It's all stationary shooting except for Outer Limits where you have to move between shooting boxes. Tons of fun.

@Meridian7750
Practiscore gave the option of choosing staff, and Friday squadding, we'll see if that goes or if I get told something different. I decided to use my vacation around this event, so I have a great deal of flexibility. I like helping, and feeling like an "insider". :) Nice that they offer a stipend for the extra hotel day, but I would have done it anyway. Time to print off all the classifier stages and get to work! ( Actually shooting steel is sort of like candy, to me... it's my reward after I do actual work, like slow timed fire, or unsupported. )

I am hoping someone can help me. I really want to participate in this as a shooter. I am completely new to this, though I have shot Speed Steel before and loved it. Can someone explain what "squading" means? I dont have a membership to USPCA, hence no member number which appears the number is required to register. I need someone to break this all down for me, total noob, but I can shoot;) how much ammo to bring, etc. I am going to be shooting a Glock 19 with nothing other than night sights. Is this production? PLEASE HELP

Squadding is just choosing which group of shooters you will shoot with.( ie, which squad you're on). Practiscore isn't going to let you squad, until you're registered, and my understanding is that a level II match requires membership in USPSA. I believe level I matches are open to non members.

USPSA has a "production list" here: USPSA Production Gun List - USPSA.ORG and I see Glock 19 listed. Night sights should be ok for irons. You may want to check the rules under "equipment", just to see what mods are allowed/not allowed.

My math for round counts: 16 squads, so probably 16 stages. 5 runs per stage, ~ 10 rounds per run if you miss a lot = 50 rounds per stage. 16*50=800.

Me having ammo insecurity, would probably show up with twice that, but that's a lot of weight to lug around. It looks like there is an am and a pm shoot, so maybe 400-500 rounds per session, which is not too heavy.

I hope that anyone more knowledgeable will jump in and correct me if/where I've made errors.

I used to shoot cowboy matches over there. Great surroundings and very helpful crews. I'm sure you'll see plenty of splendid local shooters there as well. I've already got family plans or I'd struggle to make the effort.

Thanks! I have downloaded the SCSA rule book and will be reading that cover to cover. I did see the Glock 19 listed as Production USPCA, as long as it doesn't have a bunch of Gucci stuff on it. WOW, 800rnds? The Practicescore website said something about 195rnds? I guess if you make all hits? In this climate, a case of 9mm is prohibitive. I understand you "pay to play, but I dont know if I can justify that.

If it said 195, that's probably more accurate than my over-inflated estimate :) Best to allow a bit extra, though, for mikes and last rounds lost in the sand.

I love the area, grew up hunting the Paulina unit outside of the OHV area out there. Never have been to the range though.
