Why grow corn when everything in the modern human diet is made out of it one way or another? Why not something nutritious like broccoli, carrots, kale, beans, etc. Stuff that grows easy. Invest in some blueberry bushes and a hedge row of blackberries. Or grow some Wasabi. Stuff is worth more than gold per ounce. Oregon and Japan are one of the few places it will grow.

We are transitioning from way too many fir trees (and other assorted crap) to edible landscaping, fruit trees, and more raised beds. Most everyone (on this side of the mountains) complains about wild blackberries, but they make great 'security fences' and produce huge amounts of very usable berries.
