‘Gun free zone’ bigotry project comes to Seattle

Anti-gun Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Washington CeaseFire are teaming up Monday to encourage businesses in the city to become “gun free zones,” an effort that may “make a statement” but has no track record of discouraging a single crime.

but has no track record of discouraging a single crime.
Then what is the justification for the waste of time on this? I thought leaders were supposed to show results and not 'make statements' 'Statements' are supposed to be made by activists, revolutionaries and others who ultimately have big mouths but weak spines. Again I am missing something.

"We know this won't stop someone determined to cause violence,"

lol errr so remind us again why this is a good idea?! Is there anyway to get a definitive list of supporting business so we can perhaps 'choose' to shop elsewhere?

My bet is half or more of the patrons of the businesses there are gun owners. If you could get the word out far enough to
get people to shop outside the area, and cut into their $$$ they will change their tune.
The economy is already bad, so it will make an impact.
Maybe not though, as I do not know what the politics up there have changed to since we lived there in the 70's.
Find a way to impact their bottom line if you can. It is an attitude changer.

"friendorfoe.us" is a website that lists gun friendly and unfriendly businesses; you can add to the list.

Seattle is extremely liberal now. I went to see my daughter and we were walking around the U district. I'd taken my pistol but left it in her apartment since I was carry it in a jacket. Too warm for the jacket. Felt naked. Never again.
Am really tired of the left inventing new nonsense to steal our rights.

Brutus Out.

Those idiots probably wouldn't put 1+1 together about why their business is dropping off . . . unless "We the People" drop by and tell them - frequently.
The more folks who stick their heads inside the door of a given business, point at the offending sign and announce: "As long as this sign stays up, my family, my friends, and I will not do business here! Have a good day." The greater the pressure on those business owners. Hopefully, they won't pass another stimulus package aimed at helping businesses who bar guns from their premises. :(

The most annoying thing to me is that the mayor and his pet groups get instant face time with the local media. Wife and I were watching Q13 morning news, and there was a story about this. All of the interviews were with the mayor and random typical liberal Seattleites on the street, who said more or less predictably that this is necessary to keep bad guys away, and "only police should have guns."

Only a tiny little blurb at the end of the story stating that many people they asked said this will do nothing to stop criminals, or that they'll stop going to said businesses when they see a "gun free zone" sign on display - but, they didn't bother to share those interviews on the air.

Intersperse with footage of open carriers from recent 2A protest events, and you have a lame ready-made story for the local news on how Seattle's benevolent mayor is here to save the day from Gun Violence (tm)

Here's the facebook page addresses to everyone I could find on the list... start
giving them some feedback on the target rich environment they have encouraged!

It sounds like the mayor is trying to say that simply having the sign on the door will be notification of tresspassing if armed. My inclination is that he would have no legal grounds for that assumption, and that nothing will actually change about how the armed tresspass laws are enforced, but I could see him trying to push it until he gets slapped down by the courts like happened with the parks a few years back.

Is that how you guys are interpreting this too? Here is a link the the article on Q13:
Local businesses pledge to go gun-free | Q13 FOX News

I will go out of my way to not spend money at businesses where I am not welcomed. Putting up one of these signs is a great way to focus the criminal element in these establishments.

McGinn, CeaseFire ‘gun free zones’ effort could backfire

Even before their morning press event on Capitol Hill to push their “gun free” businesses idea, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Washington CeaseFire were being heavily panned by a majority of people commenting at the Seattle Times, KOMO, Seattle P-I.com and KING websites, and lurking in the background are some questions.
