    Default Youth Gun Safety

    Hello all,

my 12 year old has taken an interest in going shooting with me and I am wondering if there are any suggested reading materials or classes that would be best to introduce him to the sport?
I am comfortable with teaching him myself but thought he might also gain extra from reading, class, etc.

    thanks,
    CJ

Well, you could go with him to an NRA class. Check out this link:

Send him to the ODFW hunters safety class regardless of whether he plans to hunt. This class is the best bargain around, only $10.

This is a multi week class and involves homework. There will be kids his age on up to retirement age people taking the class.

I took my two sons to it and took it myself.

At the end of the class you will get several $10 off coupons and some various free kit too.

I would say that YOU are the best material for him. Let him handle your guns everytime you do and he is around, take the mystery out of it. Here are two that I think are helpfull, one a simple video on You Tube and the other is Maryland's safety website. The cool thing about Maryland is that after he takes the online class he gets a certificate to print out and it's FREE! (Just ignore the Maryland specific 'laws')
