    Default HK 91 Question

I have a chance to pick up a 91 in well used a little rough cosmetic condition in the $1800 to $2100 range is this a fair price? Is there a recommended source to re-finish to original condition?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

In this market, that kind of money for a rough example that needs refinishing...probably not a good deal. What else has been neglected that you don't see? Pony up a few hundred more for an excellent, original example and you'll have a firearm that will maintain a high resale value.

Option: With the market as soft as it is, you could get for less money a Springfield SAR3, SAR3/8 or early SAR8, all made to HK specs on HK equipment in Greece. The Springfield is just as good as a 'real' HK....better actually, because the SAR carries with it a lifetime warranty that follows the rifle, the HK does not. If you do start down this road, make sure you get a stamped SAR, not one of the later milled aluminum examples. The SAR rifle isn't 'collectable' like the HK is, but it still retains a higher resale value than the other contract and clone rifles because of the name and the warranty.

Here's a pretty good writeup on HK rifles and the variants. It rates the Greek SAR right up there with the original HK. Most other articles out there will do the same.
