    Default Marlin lever actions

I was wondering if anyone could help me with how do i check the SN of a marlin lever action before buying it? I am going to look at a marlin 1895 and i want to make sure its pre 2007 before marlin sold to Remington and moved only to have serious CQ on there new lever actions.

I dont have the SN of the gun im going to be looking a on me so i would like to know a way to be able to check it while looking it over.

    Thanks

I would google it. What years is this marlin with this serial #. It works for old Winchesters.

Here's a good site for looking up manufacture years based on serial number.

Thanks but i dont have the full SN. and it says on there All Marlins manufactured from 1969 to 1990:
The first two digits of the serial number designate the year of manufacture, either as the last two digits of the year (in 1969-71) or as a number code (1971 and later)..

Enter ONLY the LETTER CODE or the FIRST TWO digits of the serial number below.

So does that mean if its after 1990 it wont work? or does that mean i should ask the seller for the first 2 #'s of the SN?

As Bigbaddude suggested, a couple of internet searches might give you the info you're looking for.
