Logically, I know that a semi auto carbine is probably a better choice for self defense in most situations, but darn it, there is just something about a 12 gauge pump that makes me feel giddy. More often than not I find myself grabbing my 18.5" 590a1 when going camping or woods excursions. I am very good with the shotgun, and operating it is second nature to me. I bet if I took some carbine courses I may end up feeling different, but for now, my shotgun is my "companion" weapon. Anyone else feel this way about their Boom Stick?
Its hard to stand up against a hail of eight .36 caliber balls or 1/12 of a pound of lead flying through the air. Except for the sound of an AK bolt sliding home, I can't think of a more chilling noise than a 12g. shotgun racking a shell.
