Thread: Just got a Remington 597 for Christmas...

It's in .22 LR.

I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this rifle. I've been reading about it a bit online and have seen consistent complaints about jamming and reliability issues. From what I can tell, it's from the magazine. I believe I have the 3rd generation magazine.

Is there anything I should know?

The mag issue is old news. Any current production mags just need a good cleaning from time to time.

I installed a Volquartsen extractor and hammer on mine and it's been very reliable. Before with the factory extractor I would get the occasional failure to extract. The hammer lightens trigger pull a bit. Mine loves CCI mini-mags and Blazer high velocity. The 3rd gen mags with the thicker floor plates have been trouble free for me.
