Japanese 6mm bolt action rifle (from the war?) Collector gun
I don't know much about this rifle. I have not shot it and don't have ammo for it. I hope the pics will tell you what you need to know. The local gun shop dealer said he has not seen one still had the Japanese symbol on the metal. He said most were ground off after the war. $100/obo
I'm interested in a few trades -
- Ruger Charger 10/22
- Self defense 12ga shotgun
- 9mm stainless semi-autos
- .357 Ruger single action pistols
- Winchester model 1897 12ga shotguns
- .357 pump or lever action rifles

If this is an Arisaka rifle, it appears to be sporterized, but if it was, it should be in 6.5 or 7.7mm.
"...we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."

I wonder why someone would sporterize an Arisaka with the chrysanthemum intact?

My thoughts exactly. The previous owner didn't know what they had?

After WWII, these were a dime a dozen, so many got cut down. At least the barrel isn't cut on this one.

A quick spotting feature:
6.5 mm rifles had the deep bolt handle notch. 7.7mm rifles have a shallow bolt handle notch
The intact chrysanthemum usually indicates a captured rifle, not a surrendered rifle.

So from the pics, is this one deep or shallow?

This is the deep bolt notch. The shallow has about 1/8 inch metal raised behind the bolt handle.

Even easier way to tell. Even with this blurry picture

you can see two gas escape holes and the markings arranged vertically under the chrysanthemum. That's a Type 38 (6.5 mm).
The Type 99 (7.7 mm) has one gas escape hole and the markings are horizontal.
Type 38 (6.5 mm)

Type 99 (7.7 mm)
