Default Mt. Hood - Wildcat Mt. Rd. - Closed!

Just got back from Wildcat Mt Rd. on Mt. Hood - 9/25/2011.

The shooting areas have been bulldozed and piled with big rocks.

Lots of signs saying "NO SHOOTING".

Too bad. Another shooting spot permanently closed.

I was up there last weekend. EVERYTHING IS CLOSED! At least all the good ranges.

I do not live in this area but could the info in the link be part of reason? The project dates of 2010-2011 noted in the report is what made me think it might be the reason for the closure.

Thanks for the info RVTECH. We keep losing our public places to shoot. Seems to be a pattern everywhere. So sad!

Maybe we need to start a new group...Quarrykeepers of Oregon and Washington.

Went up Wildcat and although there were signs stating "no shooting from the road" there was a pit off of it that was still open with no signs.

That's because the no shooting sign was shot to smithereens.
It was posted at the National Forest boundary, right where the road narrows on Wildcat Mt.

Sorry, I thought the sign said no shooting from the road. I turned off on 155 and went back into one of a few pit areas at the end of that road.

The Douglas Ridge hiking trail cuts through the gravel pit area near the South side cliff area. There was a lot of complaints to the National Forest rangers about cross fire endangering hikers.
Too bad, because it was a great place to shoot.
