Thread: Anyone here a victim of Trigger Finger? I'm serious!

Okay, this is my first post ever on any forum aside from my introduction here.
I'm curious if anyone here has suffered from the medical condition Trigger Finger. About two years ago the middle finger on my right hand began triggering. It was kind of like a party trick at first but then it began hurting. I ended up wasting a lot of money on therapy. I went to a Plastic Surgeon/Hand Specialist and agreed to try the shot. Before my 2 week follow-up visit the index finger on my left hand began triggering. He said that wasn't so unusual.
I'm going in this Friday for surgery on both hands as I now have one finger on the right and 3 fingers on the left!
Thank goodness I've got my husband here to take care of me! Saddest thing ever is that it's gonna' be quite some time before I'll be going to the range. No wait --- I'll go with him and critique!
Back to the topic -- can anyone give me a heads-up on recovery?
I appreciate any info.

The only regret you will have, is not doing the surgery sooner.
I was having knee surgery done and the surgeon said that I had met my deductible ($5,000.00) and did I have anything else that was bothering me.
I told him about the trigger finger and he said "no problem, it's on the house".
Recuperation was fast compared to the knee work done. That was ten years ago and now my left hand is starting to act up. It's worth all the hassle.

Just got off the phone with my Mommy-In-Law and she said get-R-done. She had it with a thumb, ring finger and pinky. One of the fingers stayed triggered long enough the Dr. was worried it might not straighten back out. All went well and follow the Dr's advice for healing. Prayer sent for you too.

Yep, had one on each hand and they come out fine after surgery. The scars can pass for stigmata for awhile

i had 2 fingers do this when i had a herniated disk in my back/neck.
those discs do a lot more damage than you think they do sometimes.

My hands do it. And while its annoying in the morning by the time I've finished my first cup of coffee its pretty much gone. Been going on for 2+ years. Combined with the odd sensation of both my thumbprints being half asleep all the time. It all par for the course for a Custom Knifemaker like I used to be. 14 years of trying to burn your thumbprints off has a detramental effect on the nerves.

So far the Trigger Finger hasn't been a problem maybe I have a light case or maybe because I use my hands so much it just can't progress much further.

You might also try DMSO on the joints it worked wonders of an aunt of mine years ago.

DMSO. I remember my Dad using it and smelling like GARLIC!!! He said it worked for what ailed him but I don't remember what that was.

what does this trigger finger do?does it lock up in the trigger pull postion or does it just get shakey?
and why does it happen,from shooting?

Has absdolutely nothing to do with shooting. It is caused by the ligaments and tendons the run up alongside the fingers getting little bulges in them swellings if you will. These ligaments and tendons pass through little tubes along side the joints and when the bulge has to pass through these restrictions it causes a detent or jerk in the movement of the finger on opening or closing (as if trying to make a fist).

Do a Google search for Trigger Finger and you will come up with a detailed explanation.

Well I guess it could have something to do with shooting if it kept you from pulling a trigger smoothly.

Had trigger finger syndrome of the left ring finger. It was cured by a motorcycle accident (not my fault) that broke the two metacarples on the left hand. Now I have very stiff joints on my little finger and ring finger. I think I would rather have triggerfinger. By the way, DO NOT use DMSO. It is horse liniment and can cause neurological damage in humans. I was something the Hippies used during the 70's. Greydog.
