Oh huge pet peeve. I had typed out half a page getting more and more worked up at this topic. But instead i've decided not to be baited. *grin* Honestly, at the end of the day it's not going to change anything. Mom and dad taught us to work hard for our money and nothing was free. You had your self respect and you depended on nobody but yourself. Times have changed. Welcome to the new welcome state where everyone wants to sit on their asses and get something for nothing from the government. They want to switch off their brains and just watch American Idol and not care what rights are beng stripped away from us. Just keep the government cheese coming!

So, only about 10% are normal, the rest are hope & changers. Sad.

This is why the ex military going to college now are doing so well with the usable degrees they leave school with. They have a very grounded way of looking at life. They have a real work ethic and don't waste their time screwing around enjoying the ride.

My son is most likely going to leave active duty the US NAVY in 2013 (he will have 10 years in not including his over year in delayed entry) His plan is to go into the Reserves so to keep his options open. And to attend college close to home working on a degree in either computer engineering or electrical engineering. To build on his experiance as an Electronix tech way three different schools in his time in.

Once he gets out of school he will decide to either take a commision in the reserves/active duty or enter the job market remaining in the reserves.

Our Daughter took her 8 years in the Service and is now a PA working for a Doctor in Portland making a very good income. And raising her two girls and husband best she can.

Remember the old saying "Those who can do. Those who can't teach?" I think this has become far too much a reality and those who can't are teaching their self entitlement version of ethics to the youth in this country. Just how long until this type of thinking leads to the complete collapse of our country? With a little luck, a few years in the working world will right the course of their (the students) thinking...

the occupy portland really showed how messed up this generation really is.
hate the rich because they made something of themselves,so punish them by giving their money to hippy druggie young people who refuse to work or even try to make an effort to hold some responsibility for themselves.
no the american way is go out and make yourself rich too and maybe share some of the wealth as charity to the needy, not the lazy druggie hippy kids who think playing xbox in their parents basement is a full time job.

looks like one of those infomercials about how 55 cents a day can help feed these kids.

Because the more kids they have the more welfare they receive!! I'm betting she's making $4,000 a month in payments and they qualify for free food too.

Back before the 60's the rich were taxed at 70%, thats what this country was built on and why the Government is failing to provide proper educations though the public school systems, why roads are falling apart and why the infrastucture of America is degraded to what we all see today. Trickle down economics failed, and the free trade agreement shipped away many of the factory/manufacturing jobs overseas.

Trickle down economics is another phrase for free market capitalism, that's what has made the US the most prosperous nation in world history because it doesn't trample on most citizens natural inclination to better their lives. Tell me about all of the centrally planned economies that are successful for more than a few generations, don't they eventually run out of other peoples money?

There is an old saying about America, 'The business of America is business'. It's an old saying because you don't hear it anymore. Everybody wants to kill that goose that lays those golden eggs. The goose is business and the eggs are...have to say it...you might skip the next word if it hurts your sensibilities...PROFIT.

If businesses aren't successful, for instance, if GM spends more to build a vehicle than they can sell it for then they should go under and file for bankruptcy. If we taxpayers bail them out do you think they will get more efficient or keep following the same business practices that got them in trouble. Rhetorical question since we robbed the investors of their shares and gave it to the auto workers, of course they will pay themselves well and vote themselves generous retirements. Nobody should be too big to fail in a free market capitalist system, but we aren't anymore are we?

It is NOT capitalism that has failed this country, it is the bas tard i za tion of capitalism along with socialism that has killed it. Our debt is going up $4 billion per day, it's the SPENDING. Ever hear of the Cloward-Pivin stragety? President Obama used to teach it.

Look into the unemployment of Harpers Canada, they cut government. It worked.

Look at China. How many five year plans did they go through to no avail. Then they tried capitalism, it worked.

Look at Greece. It didn't work.

And we, the country that showed the world how to be successful is now copying Democratic Socialist Europe. And the outcome should be obvious to all.
