    Default HELMET Vs RIFLE/PISTOL BULLETS

I was pretty bored today so i decided to go out and target shoot for a few hours.
A while back i bought a Belgium army helmet with kevlar lining from a surplus store.
I decided i would see how well it stood up to small arms fire.

I thought i would share the results here, I admit this was not a controlled scientific test,
but i think the pictures are kinda cool and wanted to share them.

    I shot the helmet with a SAR1 AK47 -7.62x39

    Then a Mosin nagant -7.62x54r

Both of the rifle shots where at 200yrds

and completly penertrated the steel helmet and kevlar lining.

After that i brought the helmet downrange to 75yrds

and fired at it with guns chambered in .380, 9MM, .40s&w and .45

Although the pistol caliber guns put huge dents into the helmet, non of them actually penertrated the steel.

As i say im not trying to prove anything with this post. I just thought it would be cool to show the pictures

P.s I'am happy that i was not wearing the helmet!

Any other forum members got pictures of the results of shooting at helmets/body armor?

    INteresting -
So your odds are pretty good it it took 3 full magazines

Just goes to tell you the Mosin nagant has a reputation - I heard it can do that at 1000 yards. AS long as the shooter can hit it.

Since most people try for body shots - I wonder how a police vest would do againt it at 200 yards

I like to shoot, but im not a very accurate shooter, I'am certainly not a marksman. My main theory is put enough rounds down range and eventually you will hit something.
Im sure the 7.62x54r or maybe the .303 enfield could hit the target at say 1000 yards (but not if i was operating the rifle)
I like to shoot with iron sights and i can hit targets at a distance of 200 yards with iron sights on a rifle.
I can hit targets at 75 yards with pistols (even 380's) ....not consistantly but its possible.

I would also like to know what kind of damage can happen to a 'vest' at 200 yards or less

Three magazines at 75 yards with a 380 is probably what I would do
