    Default OAL/folding stock question

Is a rifle legal (federal) if it has a 16.5" pinned barrel with a side-folding stock that measures 25" OAL closed and 35" OAL open? I know rifles need to have an overall of 26" but is that with the stock in the open position or the folded up position? Is 25" folded an NFA item? Thanks.

    Found these:

    http://www.ak47.net/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=11&t=444049
"Overall length of rifles is 26". The federal standard is to measure it from one extreme to another, that means stocks in the open position and extended to full length."

    http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.ht...f=282&t=193221
"The OAL is measured with the stock in the fully extended position, as far as Federal gun laws are concerned. ATF doesn't care how short the rifle is with the stock folded, as long as it is more than 26" with the stock unfolded and extended. It doesn't even matter that the rifle can be fired with the stock folded."

Well you did answer your own question.

16" + barrel and 26" + OAL measured from extreme ends.

There are a couple of states that do weird numbers and measuring but WA an OR follow Federal law.

Yup. I just wanted to be sure. The way the laws are written it's so grey-area/hard to define BS.
