    Default M249 SAW replacement?

Curious as to what everyone's opinions are of the Marine Corps' choice on the M27 IAR as the M249 SAW's replacement?

As long as its more reliable that that POS, it'll be a good thing.

From what I read it's not a total replacement but intended to fill the gap between the M249 and the M16 for some missions

Sure great idea until barrels start getting hot and can't be switched out. I for sure dont want to cary six or seven beta mags on me to feed the thing. The M249 is a fine weapond but many have worn out and need to be refurbished or replaced.

A closed-bolt, magazine fed LMG replacement is a BAD idea.

Getting some Beta mags approved for use would work around the second issue, but the risk of cookoffs under heavy fire will never be fixed. Apparently they do shoot 2 MOA out of the box though.....

    EDIT:

Looks like Magpul is already on the ball for high cap mags:

What does this do that a M16 doesn't? It just sounds like a heavy barrel piston gun.

It looks like any other M16. It must me a better price than Colt. :/ lol
At least cheaper than the 6.8 from Barrett.
