Default Turn In Your Neighbor For Owning A Gun … Get $1000 Reward

Check this video! This thing is for real. Newark, NJ Mayor is offering a $1000 for turning in gun owners, any gun owners, anonymously, no questions asked. At first I thought it was a SNL skit but it is not.

Of course, open carry is prohibited. Conceal carry is discretionary. So no legal gun owner should ever let anyone see his/her firearm. Still... I am so glad I don't live there.

It looks like one of those horribly cheap infomercials! You'd think a city that was willing to throw a grand at random people for ratting on their neighbors, would put a little more effort into making it NOT look like a joke. How great would it be if NY, NJ and CA just fell into the sea?

You're thinking small on this. All i have to do is report everyone on the classified sections and my house, car, and all other subsequent debts are paid off!!!!

That's pretty low rent for a city sponsored TV spot. I've seen better mattress commercials.

Seems like a good idea to me. Gives incentive for people to report illegal guns and get them off the street. I do not see what is wrong with that at all.

Same tactics of the Nazi socialist, rat out your neighbor and they will rat you out. It starts with the illegal guns and then they come after yours. How many of your neighbors know you own guns, that you know of??? Little at a time, they steal them just a little at a time.

I sure hope that is a joke.

I did not know there were any "illegal guns". Can you please explain to me what that is. Next how does someone know if a "gun is illegal" or not?

The question is, if someone reports you, what can they do about it? Come to your door and be denied a search of the premises? How many doors will they get turned away at before they stop following up on the calls?

It's just a political stunt to get some press and be able to say "See! We're doing something!"

I think the key here is CARRYING. Not OWNING. That's what I got from the video. CARRYING in the dumpy city, or anywhere else in NJ is illegal, isn't it?

To be honest I am not 100% sure. I have never had a burning desire to go to Nj or anywhere in that general vicinity so I haven't researched their CC/OC laws.

NJ is a may issue state in regards to concealed guns. Not sure if all guns have to be registered, but I"m pretty sure hand guns do even if they never leave your home, across the river in NY I know all handguns must be registered and they are also a may issue state.

They don't much care for the 2nd amendment on that side.

I can respect that sentiment, how ever in my experience I found NYC to be a heck of a fun town and full of awful nice people.

Pretty sure the crimminals are the only ones allowed to carry in the city.
