Default 5 NYPD officers arrested in gun-smuggling sting

    News from The Associated Press

"...The arrests stem from an FBI-NYPD internal affairs investigation that began in 2009 when a paid FBI informant tipped off authorities that an 18-year NYPD veteran, William Masso, was interested in making money by transporting stolen goods. In the months that followed, the informant and an undercover investigator posing as the ringleader began supplying the defendants and others cigarettes - purportedly stolen out of state - for resale in New York, the criminal complaint says.

Court papers described the informant as a non-U.S. citizen who "has been assisting the FBI in exchange for payment and aid in remaining in the United States."

Masso, 47, recruited younger officers from his Brooklyn precinct to join the smuggling ring, authorities said. He instructed the men to carry their badges while transporting the stolen goods and, if they were stopped by police, to say they were doing legitimate off-duty work, they added.

According to the complaint, Masso complained in a taped conversation that the officers weren't getting paid enough.

"They're risking a lot for a little. ... They know what's going and how much trouble they could get in," he said, according to the complaint. ..."

    Disgusting.

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg has long targeted illegal smuggling of guns into the city and said that, if the accusations are true, the officials engaged in "a disgraceful and deplorable betrayal of the public trust."

"(CBS/WCBS/AP) NEW YORK - Five New York City police officers are reportedly among 12 people arrested in a gun smuggling sting operation, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday.

Five of the cops are currently working in various precincts in Brooklyn. According to CBS station WCBS, three other suspects are retired police officers.

The arrests come amid speculation that the Bronx prosecutor is close to bringing charges in a separate ticket fixing case that could result in about a dozen officers' arrests. ..."

Tell me something new ... Cops are the most corrupt of the whole government ... Try to get into a precinct and ask for a form to complain against a cop in that precinct ... They protect each other and you may even get arrested if you insist ... Disgusting ...

Now on to a serious post, I'm pretty anti cops. Their word means to much in the courts because we set them on a pedestal that no person belongs on. Just because the occasional cop gets arrested doesn't mean they usually don't fly above the law. To bring down the pigs they actually need hard core evidence as to where the general pop can get life on circumstancial bullpoop. Take Casey Anthony for example, I hope she spends eternity being drowned in her afterlife but that doesn't mean I wasn't very proud of the jurors in that case. ZERO evidence finally prevailed! Oh and most cops don't know their gun laws and I wanna take their oakly sunglasses off their face, poo on them and then take the cops baton and smash them to pieces!

Bellevue v. Bloomberg: NYPD cops busted for gun running

Anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just been handed an embarrassing little scandal involving eight New York City police officers, several guns with obliterated serial numbers and the go-for-the-jugular criticism of Bellevue gun rights activist Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
