Big Canine Track - ~30 miles outside Silver Lake, in Unit 77

I suppose could be a _big_ dog, but looked wolfish to us.

It looks like it could be mountain lion as well. thats a big track though.

The age of the track is an issue. There are no score marks from claws so it leans towards a feline, yet the shape of the heel pad says canine. Maybe you found the love child of the mythical 'dogs and cats living together' adage?

if u compare your two picture u will see your pic that the pads and the back paw prints corner to eachother. in the worlf print it sits slightly in front. i believe u have a cougar print.

I looked up this photo of mine thinking it would help but it's not nearly as crisp as I'd remembered. Will share anyway. Taken near Hawthorne, NV in 2008.

mountain lions have a distinct 3 lobe rear pad and claws are not visible. the track at the top of the page is a canine.you can see where the claws were and the pads are narrow.

Heard a news story just last week where a collared wolf is now in Douglas County and was tracked making it's way there from the Northeast part of the state via Lake County. Seems these things like to move around.
