I bought a short action tactical style for my Rem 700 last summer. It was supposed to be ready for bedding. I was anything but. I had to to do a LOT of inleting, the barrel area was open to foam the full length. The area for the bottom metal was not even close to right. I had to fill many flaws and even a few cracks. For what I paid, and the hours and hours of time I put into it, I could have bought a pretty nice stock.
However, it has performed well since I finished it. Really tightened my groups at 300 and 600 yards.
There's a bunch of info about MPI over at the 'fire, if you do a search. I seem to recall a thread about them not too long ago, in the custom rifles and wildcats forum.
