Thread: Winchester 88 grip cap removal

My buddy is refinishing a Winchester 88, & want's to know how to remove the grip cap.
Can any one here help with this please?

Does your buddy have a computer? Have him search for "Winchester 88 schematic". I found several that show a grip cap secured with a screw into the stock, which is covered with a grip cap insert. Maybe someone on here has taken one off, but my best guess is it's secured with glue. Use a heat gun to soften the glue, and a non-marring tool to carefully pry it loose, in order to get to the screw underneath.
