    Default Marlin 1894 carrier question

Is the carrier stainless? I just picked one up and the carrier has some light rust, any harm in bead blasting it?

I don't think it is SS. But one quick way to confirm is to apply a bit of cold blue. If it takes, it is not SS.
I do not see any harm with bit blasting. But, IMO, it will make the carrier a bit more susceptible to rusting than keeping the surface smooth. I'd rather chemically remove the rust and then sand, or just sand with a 400/800 grit. Just my 2 cents.
