Thread: Questions about barrel swapping

I got a Uberti Cattleman in .45 Colt. If I buy a Colt barrel in 38-40 with cylinder can they be swapped? are the barrel threads the same? If not I'll buy Uberti barrel+cylinder.
Can anyone recommend someone local who can do the swap affordably?

Yes the barrel threads are the same! You can get a new cylinder ($135) and barrel ($135) to put in plus you might need to get a hand assembly ($33). Most likely rhe timing would be off when putting in a new cylinder, so the new hand would be needed to be fitted. I would say you would be looking at about 3 hours to have a smith swap it all out ($175 or so).

So you would be looking right at about $500 in parts and labor.....

It might be more cost effective just to pick up another pistol in 38-40, and keep the 45 LC intact.

I'd agree with Velzey:

If you are doing this for the experience, or to learn, or for fun - go for it. Sounds like a fun project.
If you want a second revolver in 38/40, then just buy a new/used one for $400.

If you go the second route - maybe find a nice dual-holster leather belt.
