    Default SKS bayonet attachment removal?

I've recently replaced the "2x4" looking stock that came with NORINCO SKS 20+ years ago with a TAPCO stock. I was to cheap to purchase the stock that would allow me to retain the originial "spike" bayonet, so now am asking for any information that would help me in removing the bayonet attachment on the barrel.

Also, what would be the best way to removed the cleaning rod attachment portion on the bottom of the sight base, as I've managed to collect some nice gashes from the rather sharp edges.

    Thank you for any assistance.

A bandsaw, like a portaband is recommended here..

I have that tecsight rear peep, in combination with a front firesight, and really like the combo better than the stock setup.

That is correct. Both Batfish and Tunny ('75 - '81).

Good job and thanks for your service!

Yep, I served from '74 to '83, ending up at Point Loma for staff duty. Those were the days.

Not having the spare cash for a portaband I would use a hacksaw and files to dress it up and perhaps a dremel and cold chisel.

Ack! More bubbleheads! Everywhere you turn...

Edit: Might I ask, why is it necessary to remove the lug? You've already removed the bayo.

You are dealing with a bubblehead. Telling him will not work. He must have a NAVSEA or Subron or command approved procedure un hand to proceed.
Now me being a skimmer you can just share your insight and I will understand and do it.

You know of course that there are only two kinds of ships, right? Submarines and targets.

"Death from Below" Bubbleheads forever! You know, fresh air and food are over rated anyway!

As for the bayonet lug being removed, I've managed to grab at that end way to often and have ended the shooting day with bloody hands. So I decided that cleaning up those sharp edges was the answer for me.

Back to those two types of ships, I've seen way to many of those targets bobbing around in those nor-east storms. Not for me.

You need to remove it to remove the receiver cover. How effectively does it keeps its zero?

Default I've never benched it, but

Well, I've never benched it, but from standing free hand it shoots pretty durn good. If it's off, it's only due to my lack of stability.

Agreed. I much prefer two minute showers and an oil film on the surface of my coffee .

    Default When were you on

Keith, when were you on the Guardfish?

    Thanks for you service!

Man, as AB use to say "those were the days", or something like that.

I decommissioned the Guardfish after its last North Run in '91. I think I was on it a total of just under two years before I got out.

What would happen if you took it to a 'machine shop' and had them remove it and 'clean-up' the lug site? It may be cheaper than buying a tool you would use once.
