One consistent theme with subsidized systems like MAx - it is the focal point for crime. It is the vehicle of choice
Want to extend crime into outer communities - extend Max there.
Perfect exmple of why people should have CCW

I ride the Blue, Red, and Yellow line five times a week. I have seen people argue, I seen drug deals, I almost seen a fight. I hate the bad smells and the A-holes who listen to loud music. I usually get looked at a lot because people think I am a cop, and people ask me if I am a cop or if I am in the services.... I guess I just look tacticool lol. I am not in marked uniform but my blue BDU pants, dark 5.11 jacket, 5.11 cap, sun glasses (they are RX and I don't like people noticing what I am looking at, makes me look meaner lol), and one earpiece (so I can listen to music and still hear what is going on around me) makes people wonder. I feel sorry for the mofo who decided to steal from me or give me a beat down. There are some shady people on the max platforms/stops but personally I have not seen any fights, any shootings, or stabbings.
I think some people also transport weed on the max lol sometimes I smell a strong smell of weed and I see them with a bag and they keep it close and look around hahahahah.... I am seeing more people smoking weed on the platforms, heck on the way to work I saw a guy smoke a joint and he didn't see me till I was about twenty feet away and when he saw me his eyes opened up wide and I think I messed up his high lol.
They have unarmed security but they only ride on the max for a few stops, they also have the inspectors. They sometimes have LEOs on the max but most of the time they are checking tickets. I agree they should have more security on the max but that would coast Tri-Met more money and they probably won't like that too much.
Sometimes I wear my concealable body armor on the way to work and people at work wonder why.... well they drive so they don't understand and they are also sheep anyway lol.

I think the Max has the same problems with light rail that all light rail systems in the U.S. are experiencing. Apparently, San Diego put a Police Officer on each car and the problems went away but they must have paid for it with some kind of Federal Grant. Light rail in Portland was, is and will be a problem in the long haul.

Come on now, I ride MAX, my wife rides MAX; yes we own a car, a new 2012 vehicle but we still ride MAX.

I wonder if we enforced payment for MAX if a lot of the issues would go away, maybe I am just being very ignorant. I don't know how we would get that done; bah.

what I dream someday is an open carry to the gun show at the end of the yellow line at the expo center. Curious what would happen...as it is strange that a gun show at the expo center and a max line heads there.

I used to ride the MAX fairly often a few years ago. Saw a few heated arguments but never a fight, mugging, or gross crime. I don't disagree that the MAX provides an avenue for hooligans to prey on unaware people, but those people are usually on their phones or listening to loud music through earphones/earbuds...totally dislocated from what's actually going on around them.

And here we have another shining example, and such timing.

"Officers went to the Hollywood Transit Station at 1410 NE 42nd Ave., where they met the train and learned the suspect had allegedly confronted the operator with a knife."

Portland police arrest 18-year-old man who allegedly threatened MAX operator with knife | OregonLive.com

PS- PrDubi I've watched proud Parents and their children openly carry a Nagant Rifle (and other things, but the Nagant was the largest I've seen) onto the MAX train FROM the show as I've driven past.

It's all in HOW you carry it... are you sedately carrying it on a sling on your back? Or actively carrying it in your hands with the bolt closed, lining up cars outside and making gun noises with your mouth.

If you OC in Portland, Expect to be noticed. Legal with the CHL's preemption, but we have some very vocal... extremes that I would fully expect at some point to claim that your hand strayed too close to the grips. I OC in the car, around the house and yard, but not Downtown. I reserve it more for traveling through Antelope or Condon on a good drive.

I just don't have the money to hire the lawyers to be the tip of the spear for OC. C'mon Powerball....

What the MAX really needs is a Hobo with a Shotgun.

Again, make people actually pay money or show proof of Tri-Met pass BEFORE they get on the train, and half this $#!t would disappear.

Stand up and do a pull your weapon safety drill. Problem solved

nothing to stoop, just my honest observations riding the Blue and Red line every morning and night. I hardly ever saw a white person doing anything...mostly loud Swedes and Vikings....and Norwegians also......some danes in there too but I'm not sure...

Honestly......that's the biggest elephant in the room but I guess nobody wants to say anything because....ohhhhh I don't know....it's wayyycist...or something

I disagree, have you ever thought you spend too much time paying attention to people who are not the same color as you, maybe you don't -- I don't know you

What I do know is I have seen all races and creeds to stupid and/or illegal activites on Tri-Met. In fact I was upset with myself 3 months ago because I didn't report a couple that let their child ride the bus with feces in his pants and were making fun of him and were most likely on meth; just looking at their pin-needle eyes.... I wish I would have gotten off at Gateway and had Tri-Met police do a welfare check on the child. (There was a lot more going on but I will leave it at that)

I've seen more violence from blacks and hispanics but I see more bums and disorderly conducts from whites. More or less bums bugging and harassing for change. But violence like a mongo stare down and casing you up and down for a reason....yep..mostly blacks and browns....but I would agree with you on the white part.

There is nothing racist about pointing out the skin color of the people most often involved in the crimes. Now it would be racist to pretend that their skin color (and the genetics behind it) is the root cause of the fact they are the most common offenders. The real root is a financial one. The poorer you are the more likely you are to commit a violent crime (just like rich white guys are far more likely to commit investment fraud). It just so happens that the black and Hispanic communities have a much higher rate of poverty. I am not going to pretend this is all through no fault of their own though. Some of the aspects of their culture that they have adopted over the past decades has fostered this issue. You can't be surprised when you accept ebonics as a part of your culture that no one wants to hire your child as a bank teller later in life.

I see more black/Hispanic criminals walkin', talkin', and throwing "signs" being proud to be violent than I see them saying they're just trying to make a buck.

What amazes me about this post is that in the end, a great majority of readers will sit down and think.
"what a bunch of racist rednecks and hilliebillies, whining about blacks and hispanics on the MAX trains"

they will usually ignore it 9/10 times because they know and fear the greatest magic trick in the book of cards of life.

    RACE CARD.

and you know what it always works.

So the MSM and even people will start screaming that it's a sensitive topic so let's not get into it and they will bury their head in the sand like everyone else.

And people will go back to their everyday business and carry on.

You know the only people I see that questions blacks and hispanics is at the gun show when I see the dealers their and the thugs and gangsters girlfriends are the one buying a gun and I see maybe Keiths or other dealer ask them nicely and politely and with the Portland PD there am I seeing them sweat like a pig because they know it's a funny situation to be in. The 4473 is asking is this gun for YOU....and they know , we all know and even the cops know they are lying.
