Thread: About Springfield 1911a1 parkerizing

I have noticed a big difference in the finish color in the same models; I had a GI model and the color was as black as a crows wing, a rich charcoal. And I went to look at another for sale and it was a dull,faded grey looking piece. These were new guns, the same model why have I noticed so many "parkerized" 1911s with this ugly grey color?

The dull grey/silver is most likely on the a Bi-Tone model if ordered that way , then there is the Parked model, and the Crow Black could be the Black Amory Kote.?

That and most parkerizing will pick up it's degree of black again once re-oiled.

Thats what I was thinking; parkerizing really fades if not oiled often. I guess even a new gun left sitting in a dry hot case for years will turn grey.
