Default Can anyone help me with info about my S&W model 15-6?

I have an S&W 15-6 thats been in the family for sometime now, and Im hoping to find out more about it. Its in rather good condition so I cant tell how old it might be. Pops says grandpa thinks early to mid 50s but no one is sure, and im no expert on revolvers. Anyone know about what clues to look for as far as the serial or anything else maybe???
    Any help appreciated...

You can get a history of your specific revolver from Smith and Wesson. They charge $50 for research and a letter of authenticity.

The fact that there is a model number on your pistol means it was made after 1958. The only model 15 I'm aware of was introduced in 1986, and discontinued in 1991 and the -6 following the model 15 means your pistol was in the 6th engineering change from the original. Hope this helps

Also s&w revolvers made prior to 1981 have pinned barrels and recessed chambers.

A great revolver though. I've been looking for one to buy for awhile now. They shoot very good and are cheap to load for.

It is my understanding that the Three-Letter Prefix Series Begins at AAA000 in 1980. I would GUESS it was made in the early to mid '80's.
