Default model 1894 fails to chamber

I bought a used 1894 .30 .30 xtr. the lever cycles ok when it is empty, but it is really hard to chamber a shell, although it is possible. Any suggestions?

What does the extracted case look like? And I know it sounds like a ridiculous question, but are you certain that it's a .30.30? Have you fired it yet??

The extracted case has a little mark on the rim. I have not fired it. I ran a brush and cloth through it and it seemed to help a little. I still have to take it out back and try again. It does load, it is just kind of hard, and it takes a couple tries.

I am sure it is .30-.30 win

I don't have the answers but I'm pretty sure that someone here will:

Take it to a reputable gunsmith.
    DO NOT FIRE IT!
