On models 19-5 and 29-2 what is the -5/ -2?
They are revisions of the original model. I will dig you up some info.

Well, it's a start, anyways....

As Smith and Wesson made engineering changes to their revolvers, they added dash numbers to the end of the model numbers. Some of these changes include the removal of the pin in the threads of the barrel and the recessed cylinders in magnum guns.
According to the S&W Bible, the change on the 19-5 was in 1982 and eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder and made a small change to the cylinder length to 1.62"...
The change in the 29-2 was to eliminate the trigger guard screw (the so called "4-screw" model to the modern "3-screw") and to change the cylinder stop. It occurred in 1962.
